Warner 250th Anniversary Celebration Quilts
The town of Warner is celebrating its 250th anniversary in 2024. The Warner Historical Society’s summer exhibit will reflect events in Warner’s history. We are inviting quilters of all ages to participate by creating a quilted wall hanging depicting quilt patterns or scenes of Warner’s history. Ideas might include showcasing a business, a covered bridge, a home, or a farm. Or perhaps a natural feature such as Mt. Kearsarge, the Minks, Tory Hill Rock, or the Warner River. Events like the snow train era, Fall Foliage Festival, Warner’s agricultural fair, or the Festival of Trees. The historical society has hundreds of photographs if you need inspiration (info@warnerhistorical.org). Funds raised will be used for the 250th birthday events.
Start planning your piece now! Quilted pieces need to be submitted for hanging by April 1, 2024. Let the Warner Historical Society (info@warnerhistorical.org, 603-456-2437) know your ideas beforehand so we can plan where the hanging will fit in the exhibit. Please fill out the attached form with your contact information and subject material. Let us know if you are willing to allow your piece to participate in the silent auction fundraiser, which ends October 13, 2024. Visit the Up-ton Chandler House Museum, 5 East Main Street, as many times as you want and participate in the silent auction. You do not need to be a resident of Warner to participate in this event!
Requirements:
Quilt or Wall Hanging: Three layers quilted as in a traditional quilt or two layers and tied as in a traditional comforter. The back can be one fabric or many, but the back must present a finished surface. A label needs to be attached to the back with the title, date, name of the maker, and any other.
comments by the maker concerning the work.
Fabrics: Your choice of color, prints, solids, etc.
Techniques: Traditional methods of sewing fabric together by hand or machine, patchwork piecing, applique, raw edge applique, etc.
Embellishments: Beads, embroidery, etc., as long as they do not present a hanging problem.
Edge Finish: Traditionally applied bindings or other techniques to secure a finished edge.
Hanging: Traditional 3” fabric sleeve, rod pocket, attached to the back by the maker.
Size: Not to exceed 48” in any dimension.
Shape: Square or rectangle preferred so the quilt won’t present a hanging problem.
We reserve the right to not accept an entry that doesn’t meet the theme or presents a problem with regards to hanging. This is not a contest and will not be juried or judged.
To participate: Click below to download the application. Fill it out and return it to the Warner Historical Society at info@warnerhistorical.org or mail the completed application to the Warner Historical Society, PO Box 189, Warner, NH 03278
